Different species of taimen spread throughout vast Russia. Taimen lives in fresh waters, mostly in rivers. Only the taimen of Sakhalin island gets out into the sea. The largest taimen can reach more than 2 meters in size and weigh more than 80 kg. Taimen is a predator and eats other fish and sometimes small natatorial birds and mammals, so that anglers use a mouse imitator as the bait. Due to its strength, the taimen is a rival for the experienced angler. To preserve this beautiful species, all caught taimen must be released back to its habitat.
